Who Is B.B. King?

Born September 16, 1925 in a small cabin on a plantation right outside Berclair,Ms was one of the greatest blues singer ever. After his father abandon the family when King was just a little boy, he was raised by his grandmother Elnora Farr in Kilmichael,Ms because his mother was too poor to raise him.

Riley B King, known by his stage name B.B.King, is a blues singer, song-writer, producer, and a mean guitarist. At age 87, he is still considered by many as "King Of The Blues" doing over a 100 shows per year.

So, how did Mr King come up with the name B.B. ? Well, it really all began in 1948 when he went to West Memphis, Tennessee and began performing on the Sonny Boy Williamson radio program, where there he began to develop a loyal listening audience. This led to appearances at the Sixteenth Grill in West Memphis and later to a short ten minute gig on the legendary Memphis radio station WDIA.

Initially, while at WDIA on Beale Street, he worked as a disc jockey and singer. He later started gaining the name Beale Street Blues Boy, which was later dropped to just Blues Boy. After becoming popular on the radio show, the name Blues Boy was shorten to just B.B., and the rest is history as B.B. started recording hit after hit. Not only was his blues music a style for black, whites began to love it too as he would perform with his electric guitar Lucille.

B.B. has won numerous awards during his career, and even though he has been on his farewell tour for years, it does not appear that he will be given up what he loves until the Good Lord calls him to SOUL HEAVEN.

I will be joining many blues lovers as B.B. will be coming home to Mississippi July 3, 2013 to perform at Club Ebony, which is part of the B.B. King Museum in Indianola, Mississippi.
